About Typhoon International

Typhoon are the world’s largest manufacturer of drysuits established in 1947, Typhoon has an unrivalled reputation for high quality marine and diving products. Our continued investment in research and development has resulted in some of the most technically advanced marine products available today.

In the 1950’s, Typhoon was the first company to manufacture wetsuits in the UK. In 1976, we revolutionised the design and ability of the drysuit by using a trilaminate fabric made of Nylon 6.6 – still the toughest drysuit fabric available. The new lightweight and flexible suit enabled improved movement and performance for the wearer.

During the 1980’s, Typhoon developed immersion suits for use in helicopters, oil rigs and ships. We obtained ISO9001 approval for design and manufacturing, and DOT approval to make SOLAS suits.

In the 1990’s Typhoon introduced a new fabric called CLO-TEX which was even more comfortable and used panels of breathable fabric to allow the skin to respire.

In 1996, Typhoon was bought by members of a leading UK shipping family. Since then, their financial investment has facilitated even further growth. Typhoon entered the 21st Century with two ‘Millennium Awarded Products including a heated undersuit.

Today Typhoon continues to meet the demands of a diverse range of customers, including the manufacturing of suits to Military and Special Forces’ individual specifications. Our other customers include the RNLI, Oil Companies, Coast Guards, Police, River and Fire Authorities, Customs and Excise and the International Rescue Service.

As a result, Typhoon employ up to 100 staff at our Teesside site and produce an ever widening range of clothing and equipment for divers, sailors, general watersports’ enthusiasts and people required to work in or near water. These products include gloves, boots, undersuits, masks, fins, snorkels and lifejackets, and of course, our acclaimed wet and dry suits.
